The Sound of Copenhagen
This exhibtion explores how the soundscape of Copenhagen has changed over time, especially during the transition from a crowded 19th-century town to a modern industrial metropolis.
It places sound and listening at the centre of the experience using historical voices, urban noise and quieter moments to explore how people lived, worked and interacted with their environment.
Noise, voices and silence
The exhibition is structured around three rooms with a specific theme – noise, voices and silence.
The first room is characterised by the noise of the city and envelops the visitor in a spatial soundscape to let them experience the city of the past on their own.
The next room focuses on the voices of the past, exploring how instruments, street cries and other noise-making devices were used to communicate and how the power of sound has shifted through the years.
